HOMOEOPATHY FOR URTICARIA OR HIVES IN KIDS


Urticaria is an itchy rash associated with localized swelling (wheals) on the skin that usually lasts for few hours to few weeks. It is also known as hives.

URTICARIA OR HIVES

Types

Acute urticaria: Acute urticaria is defined as hives lasting for few hours or days.

Chronic urticaria: Chronic urticaria is defined as hives lasting more than six weeks.

Causes

Acute urticaria causes:
  • drugs (pain killers such as aspirin, codeine, indomethacin and antibiotics such as penicillin & sulpha)
  • specific food (nuts, eggs, fresh fruits, chocolates, fish, tomatoes, milk, spices, cheese, yeasts, food additives such as yellow dye)
  • viral infection
  • idiopathic ( no cause)
Recurrent attacks of urticaria
  • exposure to sunlight, cold
  • pressure
  • sweat
Chronic urticaria causes:
  • Autoimmune cause
  • Idiopathic cause
  • Rarely due to an allergy.

Pathogenesis:

There is secretion of histamine and other substances from cells in the body leading to itching and enlargement of blood vessel in the skin leading to fluid extravasation and swellings.

Signs and symptoms
  • localized swelling (wheals) on the skin
  • Skin eruption
  • Itching
  • Rash
  • Hypotension
  • Flushes
  • Dizziness
  • Edema
  • Respiratory distress
  • Swelling of face and tongue

Management
  1. Avoid trigger factors
  2. Stay away from food and medicines that causes allergy
  3. Avoid stress
  4. Practice yoga and meditation
Prevention
  • Avoid the precipitating factor
  • Clean AC filters every 3-4 months at home, workplace and in your four wheelers.
  • Avoid maintaining pets.
  • Use a damp cloth to remove dust
  • Repair any plumbing leaks to prevent formation of mould.
  • Use food products, cosmetics and perfumes without artificial flavoring or preservative
  • Stay away from food and medicines that causes allergy
  • Avoid shell fish, nuts, pea nuts, eggs, wheat and soy if your children is allergic to them
