Measles, also called as rubeola, is very
contagious respiratory function that’s caused by a virus. Measles causes a
total-body skin rash and flu-like symptoms. Measles is rare in the United
States however 22 million cases occur worldwide every year.

Signs and symptoms:
- Fever
- Cough
- Running nose.
- Koplik's spots (small red spots with blue-white centers that appear inside the mouth)
- Rash manifestation in measles: rash typically has a red or reddish brown blotchy appearance, and initially he rashes appears up on the forehead, then extends in downward grade over the face, neck, and body, then down to the arms and feet.
Contagious period:
There is no specific medical treatment available
for measles since it is caused by a virus and the virus has to run its course.

Management:
- Receive plenty of fluids
- Bed rest
- Isolation (children should be kept from spreading the infection to others).
Prevention:
- Due to immunity passed on from mothers, infants are generally protected from measles for 6 months after birth.
- Measles-mumps-rubella immunization (MMR) should be given at 12 to 15 months of age and again at 4 to 6 years of age
- The measles vaccine should not be given to pregnant women; kids with untreated tuberculosis, leukemia, or other cancers, people with decreased immunity; kids with a history of severe allergic reaction to gelatin or to the antibiotic neomycin.
