Management:

1. Receive plenty of fluids
2. Bed rest
3. Isolation (children should be kept from spreading the infection to others).

Prevention:

DTP vaccine should be given at  at 2, 4, and 6 months of age; booster dose given at 12 to 18 months and again  at 4 to 6 years;  at 11-12 years, and booster shots at every 10 years after that to maintain protection.
